Welcome

So I run. A lot. I love to race, to the point that if I'm not careful, I will sign up for races every weekend. And then my race times suffer because I'm always either racing or recovering and not doing quality training. I'm not the fastest runner out there by far, but I do okay - about half the time placing sometimes in my age group, occasionally in the overall masters winners, and even more occasionally in the overall winners. And about half the time, I end up in the middle of the pack. It all depends on who shows up.

I started running when I was 40 (45 now, will be 46 next month). I post in an online running group made up of mostly over-40 running women. After a race, I go there and do a race report, and they then tell me how awesome I am, which I love to hear. They are good people, and very kind to me and my ego.

Anyway, a few months ago, the running forum we were posting on got inundated by spam. As a group we moved to another forum. The old forum finally had to delete thousands and thousands of posts and start over with a new platform. Well, those thousands and thousands of posts included a lot of my race reports. And sometimes I want to look back at a race report and relive the fun. Or the misery. So I'm going to start putting them on this blog.

I don't expect many people to read them. If you are here reading, welcome. Be forewarned, some of them might get a little braggy. I mean, they are race reports, and if I did well, I'm darn well going to say so. If I did crappy, I will also say so...but those will probably be a lot shorter. So the overall theme of this place is probably going to be a little more braggy than not. As a running friend (trexrunner.com, one of the funniest blogs around) says, sorry I'm not sorry!

I may go back in my spare time and add some race reports that I've saved from earlier races, which will really mess with my OCD because they will be totally out of order. But, first up, Hatfield McCoy Marathon, which I ran this past Saturday, and is probably my favorite marathon. Back soon with the report...

  1. Found your blog through someone I know who ran Endless Summer yesterday. I'd be very interested in the online group you mention (women runners over 40) as a I'm freshly-minted 48 year-old. Is it still around?

FYI, I am @readeatwriterun on twitter and blog at readeatwriterun.com - M in Northern Virginia.

    1. It is still around, and we'd love to have you join us! We have a group on runningahead.com. Just sign up for an account there (if you don't already have one), then click on the Community tab. Under the main forum topics are the groups. We post in the "Women's Running" group. Usually a daily thread with (over 40) somewhere in the title. People check in when they can. It helps us stay on track and motivated. Over the years I've gotten to meet several in real life and they are all just as awesome as I thought they'd be. Or more so. Come on over and check us out. Just jump in and say hi, and before you know it, you'll have a whole new group of support, motivation and fun.
